The Temples of Bandyopadhyay Family are a unique set of historical Hindu temples located in a small village in Bengal. The temples were constructed in the 16th century by a wealthy zamindar and have been over the centuries regarded as a symbol of traditional Bengali religious and cultural heritage. History:
The Temples of Bandyopadhyay Family are adorned with intricate stone carvings and sculptures depicting various Hindu gods and goddesses. The entrance is through a single wooden door, and atop each of the four temple towers are two green-and-yellow flags, also known as Dhakyas. The Temples of Bandyopadhyay Family were constructed in 1583 CE by the local zamindar, Pran Nath Bandyopadhyay. Pran Nath was an adherent of Vishnu and his zamindar title was conferred by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, who adopted a policy of religious tolerance towards others. After Pran Nath’s death, the temples quickly became a centre of religious devotion and ceremonies.
