Overview:
The Dutch cemetery D.No. 308 is a historical cemetery located in Pune, India. It is located near the Osho International Meditation Resort and was opened by Dutch traders in 1662. The cemetery has been preserved and is surrounded by a high stone wall. There are more than 500 graves, tombs and monuments in the cemetery, inscribed with historical details. History:
The most prominent feature of the Dutch cemetery is the high stone wall that surrounds it. The tombstones in the cemetery are made of a variety of materials, including white marble, granite, and black basalt. The inscriptions on the gravestones are in Dutch and Portuguese, as well as in English and Marathi. The oldest graves are said to date back to 1693. The Dutch cemetery was established by Dutch traders in 1662. It is said to have been used by the Dutch East India Company as a burying ground for their sailors and traders. The cemetery was abandoned in the late 19th century, when the Dutch presence in Pune dwindled.
