Pernem Mosque is a 400 year old mosque located in Goa, India. Pernem is a town located in north Goa and Pernem Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Goa. The mosque was built by Sultan Adilshah of Bijapur in the fifteenth century and his general was responsible for its construction. Pernem Mosque is a prime example of Islamic architecture in India. The mosque is situated near the Kumbharjua canal and is a small structure with two doors. This was probably the first mosque to be constructed in Goa. The mosque is still in use by the local Muslim community and is a popular tourist attraction. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Pernem Mosque, located in Pernem, Goa, India, is an impressive example of the Indo-Islamic style of architecture. It was built during the 16th century by the Portuguese to accommodate the local Muslim community. The mosque is a rectangular building with a large central dome, two smaller domes on either side, and four corner minarets. The walls are decorated with elaborate ornamentation in stucco and blue tiles featuring floral motifs. The main entrance is a doorway of arches lined with cushioned seats. Inside the mosque, the interior is illuminated by four large, intricate chandeliers. The walls are adorned with carved stucco work and intricate calligraphy in deep blues and yellow. The mosque is largely an open-air structure and can accommodate up to 500 worshippers. It is a popular place of worship for the local community and is a great example of the hybrid Indo-Islamic architecture. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
