Overview:
mple of Mundeswari Devi is an ancient temple that is believed to be the oldest temple of Goddess Shakti in the world, located in a small village in the district of Bankura, West Bengal. It is an important Hindu pilgrimage site, and one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is believed to have been built over 1000 years ago, and is possibly the oldest temple in India dedicated to a female deity. It is said that it was originally constructed by the great king Bikramaditya, who ruled up to the 4th century AD. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Temple of Mundeswari Devi is built almost entirely of mud and wood, and has a unique architecture. The temple has a unique look and feel that stands distinct from other Hindu temples in the region. It has a hemispherical dome with a richly carved wooden ceiling, a circular central chamber, and a large central image of the goddess. It also has four distinct gables on the sides, each depicting a figure in white marble and a stone sculpted lion at the entrance.
