The Stone Chariot is a famous 16th Century structure in Hampi, Karnataka and is considered to be an iconic symbol of India's architectural splendor. It is among the largest historical temples in the world. The stone chariot is dedicated to Lord Vittala, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is situated within the ruins of the Vittala Temple Complex. As its name implies, it is a 2-storeyed structure in the form of a chariot with stone wheels, a carved stone chariot pulled by two stone horses. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Stone Chariot is one of the most remarkable temples in Hampi, Karnataka, India. It is an impressive 2-story structure in the form of a chariot and was constructed out of granite. The four massive wheels of the chariot are carved into the base and the horses are made of single pieces of stone blocks. The rooftop of the chariot is decorated with beautiful miniature carvings.
