Brief History:
: is a mosque in Murshidabad, West Bengal, India. Located near the Bara Katra situated in Murshidabad, this mosque was constructed by the daughter of Siraj-ud-Daulah in memory of her father. Built in the style of Mughal architecture, the mosque is one of the important monuments in the city. The mosque was built in a grand manner and is covered with intricate carvings. The mosque is visited by many devotees and tourists, who come to pay homage to the Nawab of Bengal. The mosque is still used for offering prayer by the local community. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Siraj-ud-Daulah's Tomb Mosque, or the Chhota Imambara, is located in Murshidabad, West Bengal, India. The mosque was built by Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah between 1750-1756. It is a Mughal-style mosque, made of brick and stones. It has a square central hall with a covered verandah on all four sides. The roof of the central hall rises up to two large domes, and is surrounded by several small domes, turrets and minarets. The mosque is decorated with terracotta motifs and stucco ornaments. The mihrab and minbar are made of white marble. The famous Chhota Imambara is a sandstone archway which serves as an entrance to the mosque. The mosque has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
