Brief History:

Shahi Masjid is a famous Mosque located in the Steel City of Rourkela in the state of Odisha, India. This mosque was constructed in 1965, by late Shahzada M. Rahim Khan who was a prominent businessman and philanthropist of the city. The mosque is popularly known as 'Paigah Ki Masjid' amongst the locals, as the concrete structure has been locally known from historical times. The mosque is located in a small locality of Ganesh Talkies and it stands tall in the religious and social life of Rourkela. The mosque premises are regularly visited by devotees and it is an important religious site especially amongst the Muslim community. The area around the mosque is also quite unique, as it provides numerous attractive recreational places for visitors. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Shahi Masjid in Rourkela is a magnificent monument of architectural beauty. Built in 1975, the building is constructed in Mamluk style, which is a combination of Persian and Indian designs. The main structure of the mosque is a large, domed chamber, which is surrounded by four minarets and two smaller domes. Inside the mosque, prayer halls are located on two levels. The interior is decorated with intricate designs, exquisite tile work and ornate patterns. Additionally, the walls are decorated with numerous Quranic inscriptions. The main entrance to the mosque is adorned with the names of Allah and Muhammed, as well as Islamic calligraphy. The mosque is also home to a beautiful courtyard which is surrounded by a saw-toothed arcade. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
