Brief History:
Shahi Masjid, Krishnanagar is a historic mosque in the town of Krishnanagar, Nadia district, West Bengal, India. It is the largest and most remarkable monument in Krishnanagar from the late Mughal period. The mosque was built in 1728-1729 CE during the reign of Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah. It was built by Ghazi Alauddin, the then Faujdar of Bengal Subah and the grandfather of the celebrated poet Mirza Ghalib. It consists of a grand prayer hall with three beautiful domes of the Persian style in the middle and four minarets at the four corners. The mosque stands on a raised platform with a marble foundation. The entrance is a uniquely styled arched portal which is said to be of Bengal/Mughal type. The interior of the hall is spacious with lofty arches and three mihrabs. There is a huge tank in front of the mosque and a large garden with trees and shrubs.
