Shahi Masjid (Royal Mosque) in Aligarh is a very popular mosque located near the historic monument of Raja Jaswant Singh Palace. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1635 and 1641. The monument is included in the Archaeological Survey of India list of Monuments of National Importance. The fabric of the mosque is of stone, bricks and carved grey sandstone with the domes of white marble. It has five arched facades, each one with three arches and a large central dome with ancillary arched apartments. This mosque also has five graceful minarets, with their elegant contours. The two piers in the front yard of the mosque, with a flight of steps, enhances its beauty. The Shahi Masjid has been an important place of worship for Muslims since its construction. The Shahi Masjid is located in the city of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was constructed in 1658 during the Mughal reign of the emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque is made of red sandstone blocks and white marble slabs. The principal entrance to the mosque is a beautifully carved arch which opens onto a large courtyard. There are two open, octagonal grilles within which stand fifteen domes and an impressive minaret on the western wall. The mosque has four domes, two of which are located on the western wall and two on the southern wall. The prayer chamber has three domes, two of which are located on the western wall and one on the southern wall. The interior of the mosque is brightly coloured with ornate decorations and calligraphic inscriptions. The dome of the mosque is surrounded by four corner towers which are decorated with red and white stripes and merlons. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
