The Mandapeshwara Caves are a group of ancient Hindu and Jain temples located in South India. They are located in the Gadag district of Karnataka, near the towns of Itagi and Lakkundi. The caves date back to the 2nd century CE, and are considered some of the most important and oldest temples in the region. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Mandapeshwara Caves consist of four temples cut into the rocky terrain, along with several staircases. These staircases lead to raised platforms, where various sculptures are carved into the rock walls. These sculptures include depictions of Hindu gods such as Rama and Krishna, as well as several Jain figures of the Teerthankaras.
