Overview:
Located in Talaja, Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, Talaja Caves are an ancient network of Hindu and Buddhist temples and caves, built between the 7th and 10th centuries AD by the rulers of the Vala dynasty. The town of Talaja is situated on the banks of the Tapi River. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Talaja Caves comprise of a complex of Hindu and Buddhist temples and caves spread across a vast area. The most prominent feature of the Caves is the picturesque gateway to the complex - a two storeyed entrance gate, complete with towers and domed structures. - Talaja Caves were declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1983. - It is believed that the historical city of Talaja had its own set of rules and regulations, and was once considered to be a major trading centre. - The annual Talaja Jatra fair used to be held every year in Talaja, however today it is celebrated only on religious occasions. - The ancient town of Talaja is believed to have been founded by Pandawas, the heroes of the Mahabharata.Visit one of the famous monuments of India with your friends and family.
