Overview:
nganatha Svami Temple is the largest temple in India and is located in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. It is an important pilgrimage site for followers of the Hindu faith and is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu in his manifestation as Sri Ranganatha. The temple complex covers an area of 156 acres with seventh concentric walls enclosing it. The innermost of these walls is the sacred prakaram, which is surrounded by gopurams (towers).It is renowned for its historical, architectural and sculptural importance, being one of the largest temple complexes in the world encompassing about 153 acres with a perimeter of 4, 116m providing refuge to more than 40 shrines. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple is a masterpiece of traditional South Indian architecture with soaring towers and majestic gopurams. It also has 27 shrines, 21 tall towers, and numerous water tanks. Other interesting features include the museum showcasing ancient sculptures, mandapas and inscriptions, Thirumamani Mandapam and the Rajagopuram. The panoramic view from the top of the main gopuram is spectacular, allowing visitors to see the entire temple complex from a vantage point. -The temple holds the annual 21-day festival during the Tamil month of Thai and the 10-day Brahmotsavam during the Tamil Month of Adi. -The temple is said to have the longest temple corridor in India with a length of 4,116 meters with columns, each being richly carved. -The temple also has a thousand pillared hall or the Thousand Pillar Mandapam, believed to be constructed by Vijayanagara kings. -The temple is also said to have the tallest tower in India, standing at 73 meters.Visit one of the famous monuments of India with your friends and family.
