Overview:
Sahastralinga Talao (Excavated) is a large earthen tank located at Girnar mountain in Junagadh, Gujarat, India. The Talao is said to have been created by sage Jindkeshwar Mahadev and was a center of worship of popular Hindu God Lord Shiva. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The talao is believed to contain the remains of an ancient Shiva temple. The talao is located in a valley on the slopes of the Girnar mountain and has two tiers. The upper level measures about 30 hectares with a water capacity of about 13.5 km, while the lower level measures about 14 hectares.
