Overview:
Megalithic cists and cairns, Olalur are megalithic monuments made of large stones. These monuments are located in the state of Karnataka in India. The main feature of the site is the presence of megaliths made of boulders placed in circles, which were probably used in ancient funeral and memorial ceremonies. There are also two cairns that were likely used for the same purpose, with one assumed to be a grave of a local chieftain. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Megalithic cists and cairns, Olalur sites feature numerous megalithic stones, varying in size and shape, arranged in circles or groups. These circles are usually made of large boulders placed upright on end into a circular arrangement. The stones form walls, with some open spaces in between.
