Roshan-ud-Daulah Kothi is a historical monument located in Faizabad city of Uttar Pradesh, India. The palace was built in the year 1724 by Roshan-u-Daulah, brother of Nawab of Awadh (Oudh) Sadat Khan, ruler of Oudh.The palace is a combination of Awadh, Rajput and Mughal architecture styles and is also known as Sadat Khani Kothi. It is considered to be one of the oldest monuments of Faizabad and is of great historical significance. Prominent Features The palace consists of two storeys and houses a mosque and an intriguing arched entrance. It stands on a high plinth and consists of a central hall with four four-storied columns. The palace is adorned with balconies carved out of wood, curved bracing and cusped arches. The building also features intricately carved, pulverized and curved door jambs and screens. History Roshan-ud-Daulah Kothi was constructed in 1724 by Roshan-u-Daulah, the brother of Sadat Khan. The building was inundated by the flood of Sikandarabad in 1745. Interesting Facts The palace is also called Sadat Khani Kothi, after Sadat Khan, who was the ruler of Oudh. The palace is a fine example of handicraft and architectural heritage of the bygone era. The monumentalso attracts tourists from different parts of the country.
