Overview:
Quila Manauli is a majestic fort that stands atop a hill and overlooks the River Sutlej. It is believed to have been built when Ranjit Singh of Sikh Raj defeated the Raja of Manauli and took over the fort in 1839. The walls of Quila Manauli are 8 feet tall and have battle-hardened watchtowers at every corner. There is also a single gateway, which originally had seven doors but now only three remain. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of Quila Manauli is its architecture, which combines Islamic and Sikh styles of architecture. The fort features a labyrinth of underground tunnels that connect all the internal swathes of the fort. The main central structure consists of three large courtyards and is surrounded by four additional fortified structures, each culminating in a high double rampart with twelve embrasures. Quila Manauli is the site of one of the oldest Muslim mosques in Punjab, which dates back to the 13th century. The fort itself is believed to be over 400 years old, making it a historic site. Furthermore, it is said to be the site of numerous miracles, such as the miraculous healing of a leper by Guru Gobind Singh.
