Overview:

A unique temple located at the edge of a pond, Nohta ( Mahadeva ) Temple is one of the oldest temples in India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is said to have created the pond to save King Nohta’s life. The temple is believed to have been built in the 10th century AD by the kings of Gond and has withstood the test of time, remaining untouched over the centuries. History:

The temple is a beautiful blend of north and south Indian architectural styles. The main idol of the temple, Bhairav, is made up of red sandstone and has five heads, reflecting the five aspects of Lord Shiva. The temple also has a sacred tree in its premises, the Atripasadi, which is believed to be the ancestor of all plantlife in the region.
