Brief History:

Nizamuddin Dargah is a shrine located in Delhi, India, dedicated to the famous Sufi saint of the Indian subcontinent Nizamuddin Auliya (1238-1325). It was built in the early 14th century on the site of Nizamuddin’s tomb and gravesite and is an iconic symbol of Delhi. Thousands of pilgrims from around the world come here to pay their respects every year and are greeted by the intoxicating music of the resident qawwals. Aside from the tomb, the complex houses numerous other monuments related to the life of the saint and his companions, including his ‘Hujra’ (room), the Kotla tomb of Amir Khusro, and the shrine of Jehangir Chishti. Every Thursday evening, several qawwals congregate to pay homage to the saint through music, prayer, and Sufi recitation. This tradition is known as the Juma Khanqah. The Nizamuddin Dargah is a venerated mosque and dargah (mausoleum) located in Nizamuddin West, New Delhi, India. It is dedicated to the 13th century Sufi saint, Hazrat Khwaja Syed Nizamuddin Auliya. The dargah complex comprises several tombs and shrines, including that of the saint, located at the heart of the complex. The dargah is built in typical Mughal architectural style, with white marble domes and minarets. The complex comprises two main gates, the Nizamuddin Gate and the Chilla-e-Kalan Gate, which lead into the five-storey central tomb or 'qadam-i-rasool' (footstep of the prophet). The other major structures in the complex include a two-storey mosque on the west side of the main tomb and four other smaller tombs on the north side of the main tomb. The exterior of the complex features intricate Jaali work, crafted in marble, as well as a variety of carvings on the tombs and other structures. The tombs feature a vast range of decorative detailing, including floral and geometric patterns, as well as calligraphic inscriptions of verses from the Quran. Visiting Hours:

The Nizamuddin Dargah is open 365 days a year from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. There are no fixed visiting hours, as visitors can come throughout the day to pay their respects.
