Overview:
Narayana Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in the village of Tiru-Nambi in Thirunangur of Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the several temples associated with the Alvars, the most important being the Nammalvar temple located in the same village. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main deity at the temple is known as Nambi Narayana Perumal. It is believed to have been installed in the 9th century by Nammalvar, one of the Alwar saints and is said to be almost 1600 years old. The temple also houses sculptures and idols of his consorts. Interesting facts:
The temple walls are adorned with paintings depicting scenes from the Hindu epics - Ramayana and Mahabharata. It is said by devotees that the Garuda Seva, a Hindu tradition of riding an eagle around the temple complex takes place here.
