History:
The cists and cairns of Vaiyavur form a unique combination of megalithic and non-megalithic structures, with a few also displaying possible signs of Hindu-Buddhist influence. The dominant feature of the site is the megalithic cists, made up of either cyclopean blocks of granite or smaller stones. There are several cairs of various shapes and sizes such as rectangles, circles, oblongs and squares.
