Megalithic cists and cairns are a unique monument located at Kandalur, near Uppala in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, India. It is one of the most important prehistoric sites of India, which dates back to the 3rd millennium BC. The site consists of a large number of stone circles, cairns, mounds and cists. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The megalithic site at Kandalur consists of about 29 cists and 14 cairns, set in a circular arrangement. The cists are made of dressed stones and are in the form of an earthen chamber. The cairns are also made of dressed stones and are in the form of conical piles of stones. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

The megalithic cists and cairns at Kandalur have been designated as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. The site is also an important centre for the study of the megalithic culture of the region.
