of St. Francis Xavier is a historic Catholic chapel located in St. Ignace, Michigan on the shore of Lake Huron. The chapel was founded in 1874 by Fr. Frederic Baraga, a Bavarian-born Catholic priest and Bishop of Upper Michigan. The chapel stands as a symbol of the faith that he brought to the area and its residents. The chapel is built in the Gothic Revival style and is adorned with stained glass windows artfully depicting scenes from the Catholic faith. The chapel is the oldest original building in St. Ignace, and the current building was constructed in 1894. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
