Malikarjuna Temple In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The Malikarjuna Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in the village of Vemulawada, in Karimnagar district of Telangana, India. This temple is believed to have been constructed by the Chalukya dynasty of Karnataka during the 10th century and was expanded during the Kakatiya period (1143 to 1323). Malikarjuna temple, with its tall towers, is one of the most important and prominent Saivite shrines in the region. It is said that Krishna Deva Raya, the Raja of Vijayanagar, also paid homage to this temple. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The principal deity of the temple is a Shivalingam installed by Chandra Sekhara Pandya, with the name ‘Malikarjuna,’ which is derived from the combination of the words ‘Malayar’, the ancient name for Arunachala Mountain, and Arjuna. The temple also houses many other deities, including Anjeneya Swamy, Pradosha Nandeeswara, and Swami Chandrasekhara Pandya. The temple complex consists of the main temple and two other temples, which together form over an area of 3 acres. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

The temple has many inscriptions, which provide valuable information about the region’s cultural, religious and socio-economic history.
