Overview:
Karuppannasvami Tock And Jain Sculpture is located in Uttamapalayam in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. This structure is a 12th century granite monument adorned with rich Hindu architecture and Jain sculptures. The Tock and Jain Sculpture is believed to have been constructed by devotees of Jains and Saivites which together form the typical Shaivite-Jain identity of the region. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The monument is a granite structure built in a curved fashion which comprises of three sides and a dome-like structure atop it. The sculpture features Avudayar, the Hindu God of wealth and Karupanaswami, the presiding deity of the site. The Karuppanaswami temple is an important site for both Shaivites and Jains, who are known to have been devotees of the temple. Interesting facts:
The monument is known to have a single gate entrance with two gateways, one for entering and and one for departing, which was a common occurrence during the 12th century. The utside of the area is filled with a number of small shrines and temples of different Gods and Goddesses including Nataraja,Yali,Karpeanaswami and a number of other local deities.
