Brief History:

is one of the Sufi shrines situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is one of the most important and popular Dargah’s present in India and revered by both Sunni and Shia Muslims alike. It is located near Khadia in the old city of Ahmedabad. This shrine was built by the Ahmedabad sultanate ruler Ahmed Shah in the year 1429 A.D. to commemorate the visit of Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Chishti who was an eminent Sufi saint of the Chishti Silsila. The tomb of the Ulema of Sajaba, Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Chishti is located in this Dargah. The devotees of this Dargah believe that Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Chishti still responds to the calls of the devotees from the ‘lawami’. The religious significance of this place draws large number of devotees from far and wide throughout the year who come to seek blessings from the saint. The main attractions in Dargah are the Tomb of Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Chishti, the Alam ut Tazia, Bara Dar-ul-Islam, Gole Dar-ul-Islam, Maula Manzil, Jannat Shareef and Jannat al Qubba. On the occasion of annual Urs festival, held for four days of every month of Ramzan, a great mela is organized where devotees throng at the Dargah. A number of meals are served as offerings to these devotees as a part of the festivities of this Urs. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.

Architecture:

The architecture of the Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Chishti Dargah, Ahmedabad in India is a mix of Islamic, Hindu, and Jain architectural styles. The complex is situated on a high hill and consists of a large central courtyard. The main mausoleum is a two-storeyed structure that was built during the 22nd year of Akbar’s reign in 1597 A.D. The walled courtyard consists of several smaller structures including a mosque, a tank, and numerous smaller tombs and shrines. The mosque has three domes and the minarets are decorated with mosaic designs. The mosque’s interior is decorated with calligraphy, frescoes, and stucco work. The walls of the courtyard are painted with murals of gods and goddesses. The dargah also houses a small museum which displays ancient manuscripts and artefacts from the region. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
