: Fatehpuri Masjid was built by Fatehpuri Begum, one of the wives of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1650. Architecture:

The Fatehpuri Masjid located in Old Delhi is a classic example of Mughal architecture. The mosque was built in 1650 by Fatehpuri Begum, one of the wives of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The mosque stands on a four feet high pedestal and is enclosed by a low, open enclosure on all four sides. The main entrance is reached through a large gate made of stone, located on the eastern side of the mosque. The mosque has three domes made of stone and each dome is further flanked by 2 minarets. The interior of the mosque is highly ornate with the walls made of red sandstone and beautifully ornamented with intricate carvings of floral patterns and scripts from the Quran. The central dome is crowned with a ‘chaumukh’, a symbol of Muslim architecture. The mosque also features marble pavements which has been laid throughout the course of the prayer hall. There are three large gateways on the three sides of the mosque which allow the faithful to enter and exit the mosque easily. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
