Gumti Gateway In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The Gumti Gateway is a grand masonry structure located within the Bara (Big) Imambara compound in Lucknow. It was built in 1784 by the then-Nawab of Avadh, Asaf-ud-Daula. It is a gateway towards the entrance of the Imambara Hall and comprises of 4 resplendent stone arches that have more than a hundred stone bastions. Ornamental designs have been intricately carved onto the walls to enhance the beauty of the structure. The gateway is a standout amongst its surroundings as it stands 23 meters tall and is counted amongst the most iconic buildings of Lucknow. History:
The prominent features of the Gumti Gateway include a large, elegant arched entrance and an ornate inner arcade with richly carved ornamentation adorning the walls, interior and exterior. The gateway is adorned with intricate designs and minutely detailed patterns. The surface of the stones has been polished with lime mortar, adding shine to the edifice.
