Gateway of Lal kot In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The Gateway of Lal Kot is located in Mehrauli, an area of South Delhi. It is near to the Qutb Minar complex and the tomb of Balban. The fort was built by the Tomar rulers and was used by subsequent dynasties as their headquarters. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The fort has three gates that lead to different sections of the fort. The main gate that faces east is known as the Badalgarh gate, the middle gate that faces south is the Hastnim gate and the third gate in the northern part of the fort is known as the Ghataiwalo gate. Inside the fort, there are two large courtyards surrounded by several ancient buildings. The walls of the fort are made up of grey sandstone and red sandstone which were added by the subsequent rulers. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
The first ever mosque to be built in Delhi is located inside the fort. The mosque was built by Qutbuddin Aibak, the first Sultan of Delhi in 1193 AD. The mosque is made of rubble and mortar and it is an important part of Delhi’s Islamic culture. The Gateway of Lal Kot also houses some ancient tombs and palaces which were built by the later rulers of the city. Visit one of the famous monuments of India with your friends and family.
