Safa Masjid In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
Safa Masjid is a large and impressive mosque, believed to have been built in the 15th century by Shehu Usman Dan Fodio, the founder of the Sokoto kingdom. The mosque is more than 400 years old and is said to be the oldest in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja. It is also host to the el-Kanemi Islamic Studys Center. The mosque has two minarets, and is surrounded by a wall that was erected by the Shehu to protect it from local enemies. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The prominent features of Safa Masjid include a large prayer area with two minarets, a courtyard, a main entrance, two mihrabs, two staircases, and a series of four pillars at the entrance. The main prayer area is adorned with intricate patterns that are typical of Muslim architectural and decorative styles.
