Overview:
thic Cists and Cairns, Kanakapattu are monuments made of large stones that are found on the Kolli hills of Tamil Nadu. These megaliths are found in three different places-Perumalmalai, Parasuramanur and Kadaiyanur. These monuments are large structures constructed using stones of varying sizes. The largest of these cists is Perumalmalai cist, where the stones used to build them are up to 3.5 m in length, 2 m in breadth and 1.5 m in height. They are believed to be thousands of years old, probably dating back to the pre-historic times. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of the megalithic cists and cairns is their large size and the precise shape of the stones used in their construction. The constructions are integrated with each other and consist of several cists in a single complex. The cists range from simple circles to complex pyramids and intricate crescents.
