Overview:
Mantar is a collection of nineteen architectural astronomical instruments built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur, from 1723 onwards, and is one of five built by him, with the others located in New Delhi (two sites), Varanasi, and Ujjain. The structures, which are all astronomical instruments, allow the observation of astronomical positions with the naked eye. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
1. The most prominent feature at Jantar Mantar is the world’s largest sundial, known as the Samrat Yantra. This colossal instrument stands 27 metres (88 feet) tall and identifies the shortest and longest days of the year. 2. Other prominent instruments at Jantar Mantar include Jai Prakash Yantra, Ram Yantra, and the Misra Yantra.
