Overview:
The Devi Jagdambi temple is a Hindu temple located in the ancient city of Varanasi (also known as Benares), India. It is dedicated to Jagdambi, an incarnation of the goddess Devi Shakti, and is one of the most important Hindu religious sites in the country. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main temple building consists of a tall tower, surrounded by a courtyard which houses several smaller shrines. The central shrine houses a large statue of Jagdambi. Other inner shrines are dedicated to the goddess Parvati, Shiva and Vishnu. The larger towers have intricate carvings of Hindu deities. The Devi Jagdambi temple is one of four ancient temples in Varanasi, the other three being Tulsi Manas Mandir, Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, and Kaal Bhairav Mandir. The temple is also one of the few places in the world where devotees can perform shaktarpana (pirst share of water) rituals for devout worship.
