Overview:
Darbargarh is known for its temples, monuments, and beautiful lakes. It has a rich cultural heritage stemming from its close links with the ancient times. The Sun Temple of Darbargarh is the most prominent of the monuments and is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. The temple is a great example of the Dravidian architecture of the 8th century and is popular among tourists and locals. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main feature of Darbargarh is the Sun Temple, popularly known as the ‘Jagat Niwas’. Apart from this, there are a few other monuments, some of which are over 2000 years old. Such monuments include two step-wells called ‘Bavada’ and ‘Mawasi’. The Nakhuda Masjid is another important monument that is situated close to the temple. Darbargarh is sometimes referred to as the ‘Northernmost Temple of India’. Many ancient manuscripts have also been found here that give us an insight into the city’s past.
