Samania Gate In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
Samania Gate is one of the major attractions of Jaipur, located in the City Palace complex. It was built by Sawai Jai Singh in 1729 AD, and is made of reddish sandstone. This 35-feet-high gate stands at the intersection of four major roads of the city, and has two entrances. The gate has the samanya nagari (the ring of the shield), which is a symbol of the Rajputs, and the nine sculpted statues, each representing nine planets known to be powerful in Hindu mythology. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Samania Gate is an ornate gateway with intricate carvings and sculptures. The magnificent gate is built with pinkish red sandstone and its intricate carvings make it a marvel of creativity. The gateway arch is elaborately carved with several Hindu gods and goddesses, including Ganesh, Maha Kali and Vishnu, who are believed to be very powerful. The gate is also adorned by two big jars on the either sides of the arch. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
Samania Gate is one of the only two gates of the City Palace in Jaipur that has been completely preserved. It is also the only surviving gate from the 18th century. It is said that the samanya nagari symbolizes the Rajputs’ shield against the invaders.
