Brief History:
Bara Sona Mosque, also known as Golden Mosque, is located in the city of Gaur in West Bengal, India. Located in a town derived its name from the old Sultanate of Bengal and India, this mosque stands out as a symbol of the Muslim culture and heritage. Built in the 16th century, this historic monument was built by Sultan Ghiyasuddin Azam Shah, the owner of the Gaur Sultanate during the Mughal period. Its luxurious construction materials and ornate decorations were reportedly brought from Mecca. With three domes, arched entrances and intricate inlaid decorative designs in the walls, this mosque stands as an excellent example of Islamic architecture. It is the second-largest mosque in Bengal and India, second only to the one in Fatehpur Sikri. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.

The Bara Sona Masjid is an Indian mosque located in Gaur, West Bengal. The Bara Sona Masjid is considered one of the finest Islamic monuments in India. The mosque was built in the 15th century by Sultan Hussain Shah and has two main compartments, the west one of which had 16 pillars on which the structure stands. The architecture is mainly Indo-Islamic with the main entrance being ornamented by villas and cusped arches. The Sona Masjid is also noted for its massive stone pillars and intricate carvings that depict the architectural styles prominent in the region during that era. The mosque is surrounded by other structures such as palaces, tombs, and fortifications, and is an important source of insight into the historic prominence of Islamic tradition in the region. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
