The Amristesvara Temple is a Hindu temple located in the town of Bishnupur in Bankura district of West Bengal, India. It was built by the Malla dynasty of Bishnupur in the 17th century and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is renowned for its terracotta architecture with intricate terracotta reliefs on its walls and towers. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.

History:

The Amristesvara Temple has five identical double towers at its front facade, an achal or platform made up of stones, a jora ghar or double storeyed entrance, a round central shrine and a single five-roofed mandapa. The temple complex has four gateway-towers; each is richly decorated with a delicate relief of terracotta figures. These terracotta reliefs depict the 24 incarnations of Vishnu, scenes from its Hindu epics, stories of Radha-Krishna, Shiva-Parvati, etc. The temple walls also feature terracotta sculptures of elephants, horses, birds, foliage and flowers. The temple was made by a local craftsman Chowdhari Jadab Singh who also designed the nearby Kesabesvara Temple.
