Tartu St. Virgin Mary's Dormition cathedral is the seat of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, located in Tartu, Estonia. It was built in 1844–1847, on the site of an earlier church in 17th-century style. The cathedral is an important cultural and religious landmark of the city and is one of its oldest buildings. It was originally built in Baroque style and renovated in Classicist style of the late nineteenth century. The interior decoration of the church is rich in various traditional Russian Orthodox elements and features a grand iconostasis, several frescoes, an impressive collection of icons of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The cathedral serves many functions, including regular mass services on Sunday, baptisms, weddings, funerals and other religious celebrations and pilgrimages.
