Church of Our Lady of PrizidniceIn Croatia: History,Facts, & Services

Church of Our Lady of Prizidnice is an ancient religious site located in the heart of the Croatian village of Podstrana. The site was established in the year 1348, making it one of the oldest religious sites in the country. The site is dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus and is believed to have miraculous healing powers. It is made up of two churches, the Sacred Heart Church and the Our Lady of Prizidnice Chapel. The chapel is home to a miraculous painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary that is believed to be from the 16th century. It is a pilgrimage site for thousands of faithful each May. Each year, on the third Sunday of May, a religious procession of silver and gold icons and banners is held. People come to venerate the painting and to pray for miraculous healings. The small chapel is famous for its healing abilities and has been a site of pilgrimage since the 19th century. Services at the church include weekly Masses and specialty services that mark major feast days.
