History:

The Calgary Stampede began in 1912 thanks to a the vision of local businessman, Guy Weadick. He was a trick roper who dreamed of recreating the Wild West through a series of exhibitions and rodeos. He approached the Calgary businessmen's association with his idea, and they agreed to help finance the event. The Calgary Stampede debuted on September 2, 1912 with an action-packed 10-day show. It featured bronco riding, calf roping, and many performances from cowboys, saddle bronc riders, and clowns. The event was a huge success and drew thousands of visitors from across the world. Since then, the Calgary Stampede has grown to become Canada’s largest indoor and outdoor rodeo and exhibition show with professional rodeos, chuckwagon racing, and a midway filled with thrilling rides, games, and food. In addition to the rodeos and other performances, there is also a 10-day fair that runs alongside the Stampede.
