is a Buddhist nunnery located in Thimphu, Bhutan. It was established in 1999 by Her Eminence Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche. According to Dorji Ling’s official website, the nunnery was founded with the aim of providing a safe and nurturing environment for nuns and female monastics to practice the Buddha’s teachings and study the ancient texts and teachings of both sūtra and tantra. Dorji Ling provides educational opportunities and monastic living to nuns from all of Bhutan’s four school of Buddhism, including Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya and Drukpa Kargyu. The nunnery is home to between 40 and 50 ordained nuns of all ages. The nuns receive instruction in Tibetan language, liturgy, Buddhist philosophy, meditation, yoga and embroidery. They also receive training in translation, sacred dance, debate and to work as Buddhist teachers in communities throughout Bhutan. The nunnery is supported by the Bhutan-India Development Cooperation through the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, the Foundation of Young Buddhist Minds, the Mongolian International Buddhist Association, people from around the world, and the nuns themselves who raise funds through the sale of projects such as appliqué art and embroidery. Worship Method:
The Dorji Ling Nunnery in Thimphu, Bhutan is a Buddhist monastery that follows Tibetan Buddhism. The nuns at the monastery follow the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. The worship method used in the monastery is based on the teachings of the Nyingma school which include chanting, meditation, pilgrimage and reciting mantras.. The nuns perform rituals such as prostrations, circumambulating stupas, making offerings, and burning incense. In addition, the nuns also maintain a Buddhist way of life in accordance to the Buddhist teachings: eating simple vegetarian meals, sleeping and getting up early, engaging in group activities such as reading scriptures and playing traditional games, and attending dharma classes.
