History:

The National Museum of History and Culture of Belarus (Belarusian: Нацыянальны музей гісторыі і культуры Беларусь) in Minsk was founded in 1912 to collect and preserve artifacts of Belarusian history, culture and art. It was initially known as the Museum of Belarusian Antiquities and gradually evolved into the current museum, which is the largest archeological-historical museum of the country. It is located in the historical center of Minsk and covers more than 4000 square meters. The museum has three main sections: Archaeology, Ethnography, and Art & Culture. The Archaeology department includes archaeological collections from different historical stages in Belarus, including from the Stone Age, Copper Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. It also has materials from the Slavs, Kievan Rus’, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and Soviet Union.
