History:
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ is an Orthodox church in Brest, Belarus. The Church was established in the late 19th century as the parish church of the Pinsk and Brest dioceses. At the time, Brest was part of the Russian Empire, so the church was an imperial church of the Russia Orthodox Church. The church was built in Neo-Byzantine style and its architecture is similar to churches in Saint Petersburg and Moscow. The Church of the Resurrection of Christ was damaged during World War I, but was later restored. During World War II, the church was heavily damaged by the Nazis, and its interior was looted and burned. After the end of the war, the church was partially restored, but reconstruction and renovation was stopped due to the Soviet policy of the time and the church was left in need of major repairs. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Church was re-opened in 1997 and has been undergoing renovations ever since. The Church now serves as a parish church of the Russian Orthodox Church in Brest.
