Architecture:

The Zainul Abedin Mosque in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, is an example of Mughal-influenced mosque architecture from the 19th century. This mosque was built by Zainul Abedin in 1819 and is the oldest surviving mosque in Mymensingh. The mosque is made of Bengal mud brick with masonry elements. The floor is laid with terracotta tiles. The mosque has a rectangular plan, with a large prayer hall and two small side chambers. The main prayer hall has four entrance doors on the sides and a pointed arch in the centre, providing an elegant gateway to the mosque. The walls of the prayer hall are decorated with two-headed eagles, and the doors are painted with floral motifs. Along the front wall there is a stone mihrab, which marks the direction of prayer towards Mecca. Around the mihrab there are three additional mihrabs, each decorated with detailed geometric designs. The ceiling of the mosque is supported by four wooden pillars, and the entire ceiling is covered with floral motifs. The mosque was recently renovated in 2017 by the Mymensingh Branch of the Bangladesh Archaeological Department. The renovation included new fencing, a new floor, and the restoration of the mihrabs. The exterior of the mosque was also restored, and new drainage systems were added. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
