Batiaghata Jame Mosque is a famous mosque situated in the metropolitan city of Khulna in Bangladesh. It is more than four hundred years old and considered as one of the oldest landmarks in the city. This mosque was built by the local ruler Sardar Ghazi Shaheb in 1605 AD, and was later renovated by subedar Chand Tini in 1633 AD. The mosque is comprised of four domes which is symbolic of its old heritage. The central dome of the mosque is the tallest, measuring up to a height of 30ft. This mosque is revered by people from all over the country who often come to the mosque to offer prayers. The Batiaghata Jame Mosque is the largest and probably the most famous of its kind in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is an excellent example of Mughal architecture which is the style of a number of notable Islamic monuments that were built during the rule of the Mughal Empire in South Asia. This grand mosque features a square main prayer hall and four tall pinnacles, which symbolise the traditional four schools of Islamic Law. It has a large central dome, four corner minarets and several other small domes. The mosque has a spacious forecourt, which is enclosed by a colonnaded verandah, providing an elegant covered area for worshippers. The exterior walls of the Batiaghata Jame Mosque are adorned with intricate stucco and terracotta flower designs, giving it a distinctively Mughal flavour. Inside, the mosque is lavishly decorated with an array of calligraphic inscriptions of Quranic verses on tiles, marble and wood. The mosque can accommodate several thousand worshippers at a time, highlighting its grandeur and size. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
