History:
The village of Wegkapelle began as a small settlement of farmers, who were drawn by its its fertile land. According to local lore, around 1157 a farmer was scouting the area and stumbled upon a remarkable chapel. Inside he found a relic of the Holy Sacrament, which had been taken from the nearby monastery at Ter Doest. In honour of the relic the farmer built a chapel of his own, which soon became a popular pilgrimage site. Wegkapelle This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Austria.
