Russian Orthodox Church "Maria Schutz" In Austria: History,Facts, & Services

Russian Orthodox Church "Maria Schutz" is a recently renovated Russian Orthodox Church in Frankfurt, Germany. The church was built in 1875 in the Neo-Byzantine style and is known for its distinctive yellow and black striped roof. The Maria Schutz Church is the only Russian Orthodox parish in Frankfurt and is administered by the Moscow Patriarchate. It is one of the best churches in Austria which you must visit.

History:

The church was built in 1875 under the patronage of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich of Russia, who was then serving as the Russian Ambassador to Germany. The church was originally a Roman Catholic convent, but was given to the Russian Orthodox community in 1913. The building underwent extensive renovation during the tenure of the current Archbishop of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Austria.
