The church is dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy, or Mare dei (in Latin). The church was consecrated in 1631 and has acquired a good reputation due to its rich history and artefacts. The church was built around the year 1612 by the Carmelite Order in Vienna before the neighboring Carmelite Monastery.
