Gurk Cathedral is an Austrian Roman Catholic cathedral located in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, Austria. It is dedicated to Saints Hemma and Kotker, who were noblewomen from the Middle Ages and the patron saints of Carinthia. Gurk Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt and has been a symbol of Catholic faith in the region since its construction in the 12th century. History:

The history of Gurk Cathedral dates back to the 12th century when Archbishop Eberhard of Salzburg was given permission to build a church on the site. Construction on the cathedral started shortly afterwards, and it was finished by the middle of the 13th century. Throughout its history, Gurk Cathedral has seen numerous renovations and even survived a devastating fire in 1774 that destroyed the chancel and nave. The current appearance of Gurk Cathedral was established after a renovation that took place between 1879 and 1889. Gurk Cathedral This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Austria.
