Franciscan Church, Graz In Austria: History,Facts, & Services
History:
The first Franciscan Church in Graz was built in 1277, although it was destroyed in 1526. The present-day, Baroque church was constructed on the ruins of this earlier structure. Construction was completed in 1630, and it had been consecrated by the Bishop of Laibach a year earlier in 1629. The design of the façade is attributed to the court architect of the Emperor, Hans von Hewan, while the basis of the vaulted interior is the design of the Italian architect Carlo Lodovici. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Austria.

The church is 97 meters (318 ft) long, 30 meters (99 ft) wide, and 22 meters (73 ft) high. Its pink-beige façade is decorated with Tuscan columns, giant cymatiums and plinths. The main entrance of the church is located at the top of a staircase. In the interior, the nave is divided into four sections with five bays each. The ceiling is painted by Fracassini.

The Franciscan Church holds Mass every Sunday at 7pm, as well as vespers and musical services on special occasions. It also serves as a venue for various cultural activities. These activities include cultural evenings and exhibitions in the halls of the upper floor, which are open to visitors.This beautiful church in Austria has made a lot of significance in the past.
