History:

Brown's Bay is a small bay and fishing village located on North West coast of the Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda. The bay has long been a destination for fishermen and tourists alike. The bay is located on the St. John's south side of the island. The site of Brown’s Bay has been a fishing area of Antigua and Barbuda for generations, comprising of boats and skiffs fitted out for both deep sea fishing and river fishing. The earliest recorded activity in the area dates back to the 17th century when brown pelicans were first seen in the bay. In the early 18th century, a man named Josephine Symmonds used the bay to set up a fish curing and curing fish business. By the mid 19th century, logging and farming had begun to become more common in the area. In 1941, the British government purchased what was then known as Brown and Company's Bay and established a miliary base on the bay. This included construction of a pier, a seaplane base, fuel tanks, and a barracks. In the late 1960s, the British military left the area and the bay has since developed into a popular tourist destination. Today, the bay is home to several restaurants, lodging, and a beach area for swimming and water sports. The area also boasts a vibrant fishing industry, with many local fishermen from the nearby areas using the bay as a fishing ground.
